Stain Guide Blog:
The holiday season can take a toll on your carpets. Between the increased foot traffic, and the multitudes of dinner guests, your carpets might be looking worse for ware.
There’s no secret to preventing accidents, but there are some tricks of the trade that will help with stains and spills before your next professional carpet cleaning.
For small spills, the trick is to address the accident as quickly as possible. We have a comprehensive Stain Guide (Link to Stain Guide) that includes a list of common stains and tips to treat specific spots or spills as they happen, but here are the top 5 tips you should keep in mind when accidents occur:
1. NEVER USE BLEACH
Bleach can remove lots of stains, but unfortunately it will also remove the colour from your carpets.
2. ACT QUICKLY
The older the stain, the more difficult it is to remove. Absorb liquid with a clean white towel or paper towels and scrape up solid material. Work from outside the spot to inside in order to avoid spreading it.
3. TEST SOLUTION FIRST
Test the cleaning solution on a portion of the fibre or carpet that is not normally visible.
4. BLOT GENTLY BETWEEN STEPS
Rubbing or aggressive blotting can cause a stain to spread or penetrate deeper. A clean white towel or paper towel allows you to see when you are no longer absorbing the spot or stain.
5. BE PATIENT! Repeat the procedure several times until no more reside shows on your towel.
Keep these tips in mind this holiday season for clean looking carpets.
