Permanent Staining
Please note while we have a “Happiness Guarantee” we do not provide any guarantee or warranty for the removal of permanent stains. Situations of extreme carpet soiling and staining that are beyond routine spots and spills will be specifically excluded from free follow up visits/service calls. Hourly cleaning charges may apply for extreme soiling and staining situations.
While most carpets are made of synthetic fibres that are quite resistant to permanent staining, there are some things that may permanently change the colour of the fibres in your carpet. What we are talking about here is manageable, small permanent stains which you may be ok with. If your home has extensive soiling and/or staining, please check our post on whether to keep or replace your carpet.
- Bleach – bleach and cleaning products containing bleach actually chemically alter your carpet colour. Cleaning this will not restore the original colour. A carpet repair company may be able to re-dye the spots to match the original colour of the carpet.
- Acne medications & some sunscreens – can contain chemicals that will have a similar effect as bleach.
- Some food dyes
- Coffee – the tannins in coffee, especially when combined with cream and spilled when hot can create stains that are very difficult or impossible to remove
- Paint
- Ink
- Greases & Oils
- Some makeup
Improving your chances of getting it all out
- Blot (don’t rub) up as much as possible as soon as possible
- Use clean white cloths with something heavy on top to wick up liquid that may have seeped deep into the carpet or underlay
- Carefully check the StainGuide before attempting DIY stain removal
- For extreme spills or stains, seek professional help ASAP
