Great Carpet Maintenance

With diligent maintenance, commercial carpets can last between 10 and 15 years (longer for lower traffic & soiling areas such as offices and board rooms). What makes the big difference between your carpets looking old and worn after only a few years, and lasting a decade or longer is your carpet maintenance routine. 

• Regular vacuuming – the number one thing that you can do to keep your carpets looking good is to vacuum regularly. What this means will be different for every carpet, but generally, the closer to the door and the more walked on a carpet is, the more often it should be vacuumed (daily for high traffic areas is a good rule of thumb). 
• Use of walk off mats – it takes about 12 steps for wet or muddy footwear to lose most of their dirt and moisture, so ideally, this is how far mats should reach from doorways. 
• Good external maintenance – clean sidewalks and entry ways can help to decrease the amount of grit and dirt that is tracked in from outside, reducing soiling in your carpets. 
• A good carpet cleaning schedule – should be a combination of restorative deep cleaning (steam cleaning) and lighter maintenance cleans (may not be necessary for lower soiling carpets).

Difference Between Restorative Cleaning & Maintenance Cleaning 

Steam cleaning, or hot water extraction is the method of carpet cleaning recommended by carpet manufacturers and provides a thorough hot water cleaning of your carpets. This is what we are talking about when we say a “restorative cleaning” – it is the best we can do to restore your carpets to their cleanest state. 

For carpets with a lot of traffic, we may also recommend some interim “maintenance cleaning” throughout the year to keep things looking great without the disruption of a full hot water cleaning. We use a brush pro, which is like a heavy duty vacuum to remove deep down dirt and dust, and then we use an “encapsulation” dry carpet cleaning process to remove further soiling. The result is a refreshed appearance without any drying time and minimal disruption to your space.
